A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Vol. 1
2015

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is an ongoing series of performances. The artist uses humor and irony to inspect the identity of the artist from the perspective of an “outsider”. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Vol. 1 is a live performance conducted on invitation from the AUX Performance Center in Philadelphia in 2015. Before the performance, the artist “trains” someone who does not work in the art by summarizing so-called seven policies of “perfect” performance art. The trainee then goes on stage as an artist, giving a “perfect” performance with the clichés widely used by contemporary performance artists. At the end, the truth of this predesigned performance gets revealed as the collective emotional response of the audience reaches its climax.
